Secret concert hosted at El Camp
When we first envisioned El Camp, we wanted it to be more than an ordinary work space. We wanted it to be a place where interesting events were hosted and creative energy abounded. With that thinking in mind, El Camp recently hosted our first Sofar Sounds event. Three up-and-coming artists played stripped down sets for an intimate crowd of about 85 gathered in the fireplace lounge.
Miki Ratsula (@mikiratsula) performed her just-out acoustic EP Captivate, previewed unreleased work for the first time live and surprised with slowed-down, soulful rendition of Outkast’s Hey Ya – HERE are a few videos she shared from El Camp.
Box of Beats (@boxofbeats) closed out with a ‘vocal percussion’ (aka beatboxing) show that felt like magic. Using nothing but a loop station and his own voice, he built up increasingly complex layers of rich, powerful sound. If we hadn’t been looking directly at a solo act we would have sworn there was a full band on stage including lead and backup vocalists, drummers and a brass section.
One of the cool things about Sofar Sounds events is that you don’t know who the artists will be until you get there, so you’re bound to be surprised and enlightened. The artists were all fantastic. We had a great time and hope to host more of these events in the future. Check back here and at Sofar Sounds to see when future events are coming up in the El Segundo area. We hope to see you there.
